Grunal Moneta offers an entertaining and informative look at money through the ages. Using original techniques, he produces authentic-style coins from Celtic to Tudor times. He provides dies for the period of the event and strikes coins from them in pewter blanks which are hand cut in the original fashion. The coins are authentic in design, both on the obverse (heads) and reverse (tails)

The coins made are not cheap castings - nor any kind of casting!
These coins are made in the original way, struck by hand from dies created in the medieval manner.
Grunal Moneta produces coins from all time periods during which they were made by hammering (so-called ‘hammered’ coins). The major historical periods
covered are from Celtic times to the end of the Tudor period. During the English Civil War, besieged towns struck ‘siege pieces’ in the manner of hammered coins, and
these are made as well. Designs are carefully made in the same way the medieval moneyers
worked. Because they are all individually hand-struck, the coins have the same weight and handle in the same way as early coins. If you have seen cast replicas, you will be surprised at the difference! |
